Welcome to the Peace Corps Moldova.

"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country";.

"My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."

President John F. Kennedy January 20, 1961

The United States Peace Corps sends Volunteers to countries around the world to help build stronger communities, and to increase understanding between Americans and other peoples. Since 1993, Volunteers have been serving in Moldova. Many work in classrooms, teaching English or Health Education, and the Health Volunteers also work in local health clinics to promote better community health practices. Others work with mayors’ offices and community organizations to better serve their stakeholders, or with farmers and small businesses to improve profitability. Peace Corps has approximately 120 Volunteers working in Moldova. Most live in villages and raion centers throughout Moldova; only a few work in the larger cities. Peace Corps covers all costs to train and support these Volunteers while in country. Local partners provide work, help Volunteers adjust to life in Moldova, cooperate on projects, and assist Peace Corps with locating simple and appropriate accommodation for Volunteers with local families. Peace Corps develops local capacity by having Volunteers work side-by-side with Moldovans. Volunteers bring special skills and knowledge from the United States, but they also learn a great deal from their partners and communities. In this process they establish lasting relations with the people they meet, serve, and work with, and especially those with whom they live. Approximately 800 Volunteers have served in Moldova since 1993. After returning to the United States, these Volunteers continue their service to Moldova as informal ambassadors of this nation that they have come to know and love.
